1.)   The awakening of cheerful feelings on arriving in the country.
(Erwachen heiterer Empfindungen bei der Ankunft auf dem Lande.)

Allegro ma non troppo.  (13'24)
Our scene begins at the turn of the 19th century. A visitor from the city arrived late in the evening at the house of a country friend. After passing a quiet night he awakes  to a rosy hued dawn which turns into a brilliantly clear sky. Our visitor finds that the hustle and bustle of the unending city noise has been replaced with intermittent  calls of various animals as they too greet the rising sun. As the music grows it seems that the country itself awakes to greet our friend.
Track 2
The Pastoral Symphony is considered to be the first "program music." That is to say that it is the first symphonic piece to carry a central theme or story throughout the entire piece. With each sample track we have given one possible interpretation of the story associated with that segment.
